Douglas & Joanna Herrell

I was working at Lockheed Martin, but feeling the tugging of the Holy Spirit on my soul.  Driving an hour to work each morning afforded me prayer time as I drove to the Grand Prairie facility.  There was a call upon my heart to work in the ministry but I didn’t understand where and how until I received a tap on the shoulder from our Pastor at Family Cathedral of Praise.  He asked if I had thought about working in the children’s ministry since this was an area that I had been a volunteer.  He asked me to give it some thought and prayer then get back with him.  He was looking for a children’s pastor, daycare director and private school administrator for the small school – 3 jobs rolled into one. 

He said pray, and pray I did.  I knew how to control inventory for the missiles that we were building for the United States defense.  I had self doubts and wonders but as I drove back and forth, staying in prayer for the two weeks that I promised to give it some thought.   After-all, I had worked with this company 13 years, had great benefits, retirement, 5 weeks vacation a year, yearly bonuses, a great salary, 3 offices and a job that many were a bit jealous of.  But as I prayed, it soon hit me, I could hardly drive, covered from head to toe with His Shekinah glory, …..  I had the full confidence that this was the call of God and there was no doubt that He was calling me into His plan.  I called Pastor Harry and gave 2 weeks notice at my job.

Years later, as the school has grown, the daycare has abounded and the children’s ministry has bubbled over, it now takes 3 people to manage the 3 areas of responsibility.  This has allowed me to assist with the events that take place at our church during the week and, to assist my God-given husband in the Straight-Talk @ 9am..  I am thrilled that I was called and appointed to come under His covering at Family Cathedral of Praise and am thankful for the new family that God has placed in my life.   Douglas and the three boys are a blessing in my life.  They are an addition to my family of twins, Jonathan & Jodi along with my grandkids; Brittany (13), Sebastian (9) and Christian (7)
